The 2023 PAWS Seminar and Expo is just around the corner, and I want to tell you, it looks like the most exciting event they’ve hosted yet! Obviously, I might be a bit biased because it’s in my home state, but I really, truly believe this one will be worth your time to attend. This event is held at the Solanco Fairgrounds in Quarryville PA on August 18th and 19th, which is on a Friday and Saturday, and the public is welcome.

As always, they plan to kick off the event with a local kennel tour starting on Friday morning at 8:00, and they hope to be back at the fairgrounds by 3:00 PM. If you found the Panel Discussion interesting in this issue of TDJ, with the subject Building or Upgrading your Kennel, you’ll most definitely want to tag along on this tour. Participants must RSVP, and there is a small fee, but again, this fee is nothing compared to the knowledge and insight you’re sure to gain.

Two main highlights for on Friday evening are trainer Mike Beck, with Dexter the Dog, as well as the full-blown benefit auction and delicious meal. You can read all about Dexter the Dog in the article Fun and Games: Scent Tracking, and he is coming to town! If you enjoy getting creative with activities to do with your dogs, or spend any time in the woods hunting for whitetail deer or their antler sheds, you will not want to miss this. Dexter the Dog has tracked a lot of wounded deer, and Mike, his owner, wants to not only tell you all about it, he also wants to show you how you can train your dogs to do the same.

Some of the highlights for the benefit auction on Friday night are as follows:

  • Three-seater Spring Wagon
  •  Locally made Patio Set
  • A Flag Croquet Set: This set will be auctioned in sets of two bats and balls, with a total of 4 sets. The buyers of these sets will gather on a set day to play a tournament of Flag Croquet, and the winners then get to keep the complete Flag Croquet Set. More details to follow at the auction.
  •  Tickets to a Steak Dinner on Saturday: These tickets will be sold by the piece, and the buyers will gather on Saturday at noon in a special room over a very special steak dinner, and a great guest speaker will be at the dinner. More details to follow at the auction.
  • More great items, bring something, buy something.

By the way, anyone that brings an item to donate to the auction will be in a drawing for a pony. On Friday evening and on Saturday there’ll be children’s activities, vendors, door prizes, educational speakers, and much more. This is a family event, so feel free to bring the next generation of dog breeders. The exact details for this event are too many to mention, and some may change as we get closer, but as you can see by the details already listed, it’s going to be a good one.

For any more information about this event, or to register for the Kennel Tour, call the PAWS team at 717-964-7297

Hope to see you there, oh and of course, come see us at our booth for coffee and a chat!
