AKC is hosting a series of upcoming webinars during 2024, and they’re going to be amazing!

The reason behind these webinars is to keep continuing to educate dog breeders, and the folks at the American Kennel Club have gotten together an amazing list of speakers and educational content. Once per month is the timing, and I believe the plans are to continue through the year of 2024.

I’m saying if the speakers are as good as the ones that have shown up and given presentations at the AKC Breeder’s Symposiums that they have been hosting, we’re going to be in for a treat! The two past webinar recordings that I’ve listened to so far have both been of that caliber, and I have no reason to think that the rest of them won’t be just as good.

The first one of these webinars was in January, and that one was presented by none other than Dr. Marty Greer, with Revival Animal Health. Dr Marty Greer not only has an immense wealth of knowledge, she has a way of breaking that knowledge down into a simple and clear message. People like myself struggle with all of the boring details about health and wellness, but I don’t think I’ve ever been bored by one of Dr Marty Greer’s presentations.

The webinar for February “Crash Course in Canine Eye Testing” was presented by Dr. Adam King! Amazing and super educational webinar about just what the title suggests, eye health and testing.

Coming up, in March, we’ve got AKC breeder Doug Johnson doing a “Breeder Spotlight” and this is one that I cannot wait to listen to! Join Doug Johnson as he discusses ways to build a breeding program, and longterm breeder goals for success, the importance of the global community of dogs and the advantages afforded to today’s breeders.

April: “Super Puppies”! Not just how but WHY breeders need to provide socialization and enrichment for their puppies. Rachel Goldammer will illustrate the importance of early socialization and enrichment protocols from day one and beyond. Develop an understanding of critical socialization periods that influence the puppy’s temperaments, and how this can be the key to shaping the future of your puppies.

Tuesday, April 9, 2024. 7-8:00 p.m. EST

May: “Analyzing the Heartbeat”! Join Dr. Heidi Kellihan for a break down on OFA Cardiac Examinations done on your breeding stock. She will share cardiac abnormalities that a Cardiologist screens for when performing OFA Cardiac Basic and Advanced examinations.

Tuesday, May 7, 2024. 7-8:00 p.m. EST

The details for June and July aren’t super finalized as of the time of this article, but we know who the speakers will be, and trust me, they will be amazing!

Tuesday, June 18, 2024 – Dr. Claire Wiley “DNA”

Tuesday, July 9, 2024 – David Fitzpatrick “Breeder Spotlight”

These webinars come with a fee of $39.00, which in my opinion, is quite possibly the best forty bucks I can spend. Watch the Events Calendar in The Dog Journal for information on the rest of the webinars coming up. Unfortunately, these webinars are not available to call in without internet access, but if that is an issue, get some friends together, find a place where you can access the internet, and enjoy them that way. If you missed the webinar, they will be available for purchase and viewing on AKC Canine College soon.

To register for these webinars or for more information, go to https:// www.akc.org/akc-educated-breederwebinar-series/

If you can’t access the web, or have additional questions, you can email Susan Myers at [email protected]

We need your opinions. What do you think?

Interview: With Paul of Global Pet Security

Ok, so as being a dog breeder and having a kennel, you always get the questions when people pick up their puppies that involve things like vet info, nutrition questions, microchipping details, etc. One question I got asked a lot was, where do I register the microchip?

The Right Fit: Rottweiler

Their journey spans from ancient Rome, where they were revered as Molossus dogs guarding legions, to the medieval German town of Rottweil, where they earned their name and reputation as “Rottweiler Metzgerhund” or “Rottweil Butcher’s Dog.” In today’s world, these dogs continue to captivate hearts, showcasing their intelligence, dependability, and loving nature. Rottweilers, with their rich heritage and timeless appeal, embody a breed that seamlessly bridges the gap between history and modernity, remaining a beloved presence in homes and workplaces worldwide.
