Live birds will be used throughout the course for the field work. The clinic will cover how to develop a dog that is staunch on point with style and reliability, how to train a dog to back with style e-collar conditioning and how to incorporate the e-collar to develop a dog that exhibits solid bird manners, handles in control, and recalls reliably. We will cover how to teach a dog whoa along with in field pointing drills. Yard training exercises will be demonstrated, and owners will be working their own dogs after George works with them.
The clinics are designed around the level of the individual dogs. More advanced dogs will be doing advanced drills. Dogs that have not been introduced to birds or gun will be working on live birds. All owner/handlers will leave with a program designed for their individual dogs.
We will deal with problems such as not holding point, creeping, blinking, flagging.
Day one. We will meet at 8:30 on Friday am on September 29 at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Hudson, CO. A power point will cover various aspects of canine behavior, how dogs learn, myths of training, reward-based training as well as avoidance training. After lunch will move to the field where dogs will be evaluated with live birds. Once we have information on where the dogs’ training and development is we will begin field drills. appropriate for the dog’s level and the owners’ expectations.
Day two and three will incorporate field drills with live birds, marker training, point drills, e-collar, handling, and questing.
